Making the rounds heavily right now in social media are posts about Trump sycophants wearing “Real Men Wear Diapers” T-shirts to rallies in support of Donald Trump. The rumor is that Trump wears adult diapers and possibly walks around stinky a lot of the time. And the word is that some Trump supporters decided to take control of this by wearing diapers and also wearing T-shirts and carrying signs in support of...well, real men wearing diapers.
For the Trump-haters among us—and I assume most of you readers are, like me, seriously anti-Trump—this may be delicious news, but there are a couple problems.
First and foremost, despite how widely this is being spread in social media, the veracity is not air-tight. From the research I’ve been able to do so far, reports and photos of these men are from a single source and unverified.
So, whether or not this really is happening, and to what extent it might be occurring, is not clear.
Obviously, if it is happening and if it becomes a bigger thing, it will be hugely embarrassing and humiliating to Trump, even if it doesn’t cost him any support at rallies or at the polls in November.
And there is the potential that it could also hurt his image enough to actually cost him supporters.
But, as much as I gleefully look forward to anything that can hurt Trump’s feelings or public image—because this is one of the most singular awful human beings to ever exist and also hold such high office—there is another problem.
Yes, given how much Trump mocks President Joe Biden’s age—despite being almost the same age and in much poorer physical shape than the three-years-older Biden—it would be a delicious irony for Trump to be wearing diapers.
But at the same time, I’m not into ageism or ableism. There are incontinent adults in the world. Lots of them. And plenty of them good people. They just need diapers. It sucks, and the last thing any of them need is to be mocked indirectly. It’s just like Trump’s weight. We shouldn’t make fun of his weight. We can make fun of the fact he claims to be in great physical shape when he clearly isn’t, but there are so many bigger and more important things to criticize him for or mock him about anyway. His looks, his possible early dementia, his weight, his ability to hold in his pee and poop (or not), and all that are not really what we should focus on.
So, as much as I like humiliations being heaped on the oh-so-deserving Trump, I’m not sure this diaper-shaming trend—even if it turns out to be true—is where I want to invest my energies. Because the fact is that real men and women—decent men and women—do wear diapers. As do some very pathetic and awful men and women, with Trump possibly among them. The diapers don’t make or unmake the man (
Yes!!! It doesn't reflect well on our own sense of human decency and it fires up his base. On a somewhat tangential note we need to also stop the gleeful pearl clutching with the Stormy Daniels testimony. Not only is it really tasteless, it's not what the trial is about
Once again spot on. We may not like him, but we certainly don’t want to BE like him. Ridiculing innocent folks is always wrong… he’s certainly NOT an innocent person, but, as you say, being specific about his vileness without casting a net that scoops in folks with integrity is essential.
